Online Community Choir Instructions

We are really excited about trying out this way of coming together in this tough season and are glad you will be a part of it! Together, we will produce a video with everyone's combined singing to create a choir. The video will be shown as part of our online carol service at Ebenezer Church on Sunday 20th December at 6.30pm - www.ebe.org.uk/christmas

The Christmas carol that we are singing is ‘Silent Night (Christ the Saviour)’ which is an updated version of Silent Night. You have the option to sing either the melody or a harmony. The backing tracks and also sheet music or lyrics are further down on this website page.

Recording your video

To record a video of you singing the carol, you will need 2 devices (e.g. camera, smart phone, laptop) - one device to play the backing track (with headphones) to help you stay in time, plus another device to record your singing. For example, you might listen to the backing track with headphones on your laptop and then recording the video of you singing using the camera on your mobile phone.

Ideally, in your video we should just be able to hear you singing with no background music - however, if you are not able to use headphones (e.g. because you have a hearing aid), please just try and keep the volume of the backing track low so that your singing stands out.

  1. Download the soundtrack that you will sing along to.

  2. Set up soundtrack on device and headphones to listen with.

  3. Set up device to record video of yourself and your vocal line of the carol.

  4. Record your vocal and video as you sing along (guidelines below).

  5. Watch your video back to check you are happy with it!

  6. Send your video to us by one of the following methods:

Here are some guidelines for filming:

  • film in landscape (if using a phone, that means on its side)

  • ensure the phone or other device is as stable as possible (a tripod is ideal)

  • include just your head and shoulders in the picture - being careful not to chop off the top of your head!

  • ensure there is no distracting background noise as you record

  • ensure your lighting is as good as possible so you can see yourself clearly

  • leave a 3-second pause before pressing ‘stop’

Please send us your video by Sunday 6th December. This will mean the process of editing the visual and the audio onto one video track has time to happen. We do not intend to have any solo parts and choir members will always be on screen and singing with others.

If you have any queries or help needed then please email us on info@ebe.org.uk or telephone 0117 9791399 (during office hours).
