Youth & Social Action

Central to a Christian’s faith is doing what we say; practicing what we preach and serving others out of love and care. It is following the example of Jesus who came to serve and not be served. In the Bible, James emphasises this:
What good is it, my brothers, if a man claims to have faith but has no deeds? Can such faith save him? Suppose a brother or sister is without clothes and daily food. If one of you says to him, “Go, I wish you well; keep warm and well fed,” but does nothing about his physical needs, what good is it? In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead. (James ch 2 vs 14-17)

There’s no better place to start than when we are young so our ‘youth & social action’ monthly activity will give our young people a regular opportunity to get together and serve others, whether people in the church or in the local community. They will get their hands dirty, engage in hard work and bring genuine benefit to others, especially those who are vulnerable who simply need a helping hand. At the same time, our youth will learn why we do this stuff. This is all about discipleship so each time our young people are serving in the community, they will learn from the Bible why Christians do this.

Activities will include:
* Litter picking
* Clearing community areas that have been subject to fly tipping
* Painting
* Packing up Christmas parcels for prisoners.

At the same time, our young people will have fun, food and friendship, deepening their relationship with each other. Occasionally, the event will just be a social occasion – after all, our young people deserve a treat now and then!
